Friends of the Park

(Vassals / Oldbury Court)

Anyone who loves the park is a Friend

The park belongs to everyone. We want to:

  • Learn about and share our park

  • Look after the park

  • Celebrate the past, present and future

  • Preserve, protect and improve the park

  • Make the most of the park

Who are we?
What do we do?

Although the Friends love our local park, there are many improvements we’d like to see. In the face of ongoing cuts to local authorities’ parks departments, services and maintenance have been steadily reduced to a minimum. We are doing what we can to help improve things. We:

  • Contact, meet with and lobby our local council and political representatives

  • Research local needs and help develop plans for the park, alongside other local groups and organisations

  • Fundraise for specific projects

  • Run practical, hands-on work-parties to help clear invasive species, improve conditions for wildlife and biodiversity and improve accessibility. We also do regular litter – picks around the park

  • Learn about the park – it’s histories, wildlife, ecology – and try to share this through our website and (in the future, funding permitting) information boards and trails for park users

  • Enable, subsidise or sometimes run other activities in the park, such as guided walks , Nordic walking, arts projects or other youth and community activities

How can you join?

We are still young and there is a long way to go. The group is open, evolving, flexible and will rely on the involvement of whoever is interested. All are welcome. You can find our latest newsletters here and blog posts here
