Litter picking:

Monthly group walk-around to pick up litter and identify and report any problem areas / needs. We have half a dozen litter-pickers to lend, or feel free to bring your own. Collected litter is bagged and left for the daily council collection. We follow health and safety guidance and advise you to bring sturdy shoes and your own gloves. Everyone welcome! Please turn up at the kiosk at 10:00 on the last Sunday of every month, weather permitting, or watch the noticeboard and Facebook page for updates.

Work-parties:

Monthly and ad-hoc work-parties, sometimes with other organisations, to help clear areas of overgrowth, clean and tidy, prune and cut back, remove weeds, invasive species and overhanging branches - always making sure that wildlife habitats are not disturbed - make paths more accessible, improve park information and help develop its infrastructure. From time to time we have planting work-parties and we take care of the beautiful planters around the kiosk. For our latest programme of work-parties check out our Facebook page or better still, sign up and get the latest details via our WhatsApp group

One-off events in the park:

We have so far enabled subsidised guided walks (trees, bats, history, using wild plants), regular Nordic walking sessions and a wildflower meadow. There are lots of ideas and plans for events and activities as the group develops and attracts funding. Please get in touch to add your own and offer support! See our Facebook page, newsletters and blog for latest updates

Stalls and community events:

We have a regular presence in the park at public events, depending on volunteer interest and availability. This has included Party in the Ponds; Vassalls Centre community hub events, and a sunny September Picnic in the Park. In 2025 we look forward to continuing our Spirit of Place community mapping process and a celebration of everything park-related (and the power of working together) at the end of March.

Annual general meeting:

As a constituted community group we are required to hold an annual public meeting to account for our activities and set things up for the next year. We've also made use of the opportunity to learn more and gather some expert knowledge and experience to support us. The AGM for 2025 will be held on Sunday 30 March and is open to everyone. Look out for publicity in the run-up to the event!
