Events & activities

We are starting to set up an annual timetable of events. Here is the latest update.

Follow our Facebook page and blog to stay updated

Litter picking:

Monthly group walk-around to pick up litter and identify and report any problem areas / needs. We have half a dozen litter-pickers to lend, or feel free to bring your own. Collected litter is bagged and left for the daily council collection. We follow health and safety guidance and advise you to bring sturdy shoes and your own gloves. Everyone welcome! Please turn up at the kiosk at 09:00 on the last Sunday of every month, weather permitting, or watch the noticeboard and Facebook page for updates.

Monthly work-parties, sometimes jointly with other organisations, to help clear areas of overgrowth, clean and tidy, prune and cut back, remove weeds, invasive species and overhanging branches - always making sure that wildlife habitats are not disturbed - make paths more accessible, improve park information and help develop its infrastructure. From time to time we have planting work-parties and we take care of the beautiful planters around the kiosk. Our latest programme of work-parties can be found here

One-off events in the park:

We have so far enabled subsidised guided walks and Nordic walking sessions, and there are lots of ideas for events and activities as the group develops and attracts funding. Please get in touch to add your own and offer support! See our Facebook page, newsletters and blog for latest updates

Stalls and community events:

We are trying to have a presence in the park at public events, depending on volunteer interest and availability. This has included Party in the Ponds; running craft activities at the local Vassalls Centre Summer and Winter Fayres, and holding a sunny September Picnic in the Park.

Annual general meeting:

As a constituted community group we are required to hold an annual public meeting to account for our activities and set things up for the next year. The first of these, in April 2023, was very successful, attracting 50 people along to an interactive workshop to help generate ideas. This year it will be held on 13 April from 13:00-15:30 at the Vassalls Centre, and everyone is welcome. Publicity here

Friends of the Park is YOU! Nothing happens without volunteer interest and involvement. We’d love you to get involved in whatever way you want and are able to. Please contact us using the form or on social media, or turn up for one of the events!
